Graduation:
Our obedience program focuses on real life skills, confidence, and clear communication between dogs and their handlers. Progression between levels is based on both attendance and demonstrated understanding of core skills, rather than perfection on a single day.
Attendance requirement
– To be eligible to progress to the next obedience level, dogs must attend at least 90 percent of sessions.
– For a five-week course, this means attendance at a minimum of four out of five classes.
– Regular attendance is important, as skills build week to week.
Skill requirements
– Skills are assessed progressively throughout the course during normal class activities.
– Dogs are not expected to perform every task perfectly. They are expected to show consistent understanding and engagement in a group environment.
Obedience Level 1 skill expectations
Dogs should demonstrate a functional understanding of the following
• Marker training and engagement
• Look response
• Sit on cue
• Down on cue
• Recall from 5 meters
• Loose lead walking for short periods
Obedience Level 2 skill expectations
Dogs should demonstrate a functional understanding of the following
• Down stay with a release cue
• Heel position for short sequences
• Recall with moderate distractions
• Basic impulse control around people and dogs
Assessment approach
Assessment is ongoing and trainer led, based on observation across multiple sessions.
Graduation decisions are made before the final session wherever possible.
Graduation day is not a high-pressure test and is not the sole basis for progression decisions.
Progression and repeating a level
Some dogs benefit from repeating a level to build confidence and consistency before moving on. This is a normal and positive part of training.
Progression decisions are made with the dog’s welfare, confidence, and long-term success in mind.
All recommendations to repeat a level are made with clear feedback and encouragement.
Here to train you & your dog for success!
